wow, its surreal for me...to be so passionate about something. breastfeeding just really on so many levels has changed my life. i have never felt so passionately with every ounce of my being about anything in my entire life.
i just watched this speech on youtube and she mentions the disaster of hurricane katrina and how babies were born during that time and handed over to their lactating mothers. these mothers who chose to use formula over their perfect milk, in turn making these brand new beautiful and innocent babies suffer. i am sitting in my chair right now and i can't stop myself from sobbing. it is beautiful though, that something can really strike these emotions in me. i cry about breastfeeding a lot, and i think that is really amazing.

here is the speech to those that are interested..

shaktis first birthday!!!

we are having a birthday party for miss shakti, to those of you that are interested!
it will be saturday April 5th @ 1pm.
located at little stacy park...

click the image below to view the invitation, to those of you that are interested!

i can hardly believe that she is going to be one years old in two weeks!

shakti's first sign!

i am so insanely excited!!
we have been doing a bit of baby signing with Shakti but i must admit we have not been consistent.
the only word that i have really been consistent with is "milk" for nursing.
today i asked her "shakti, do you want some milk?" and did the sign for it and she smiled at me and did the sign back to me!! i thought that it was just a coincidence but i was still very pleased!

well three different times after that she came up to me saying "MI, MI, MI" making the sign for milk!!

that definitely has me motivated to make it more of a priority to work on different words with her.

i am sorry i have been slacking on the photos, my computer died a couple weeks ago and its umcomfortable for me to work on someone elses computer. hopefully soon though!
The Business Of Being Born was released on netflix the other day. i seriously beg and urge every single one of you to please please watch this movie.
its so vitally important to me! please take the time to watch this movie!!

you can sign up for a free trial of netflix and actually watch the movie on your computer or get the movie shipped to your home the next day! FOR FREE!!! just make sure you cancel your acct. so it doesn't charge your credit card. but truly truly, i promise none of you will regret it!!

Birth: it’s a miracle. A rite of passage. A natural part of life. But more than anything, birth is a business. Compelled to find answers after a disappointing birth experience with her first child, actress Ricki Lake recruits filmmaker Abby Epstein to examine and question the way American women have babies.

The film interlaces intimate birth stories with surprising historical, political and scientific insights and shocking statistics about the current maternity care system. When director Epstein discovers she is pregnant during the making of the film, the journey becomes even more personal.

Should most births be viewed as a natural life process, or should every delivery be treated as a potentially catastrophic medical emergency?

little stacy park

wow the weather here is just insane. it was 92 degrees today!
we have been enjoying this nice weather though let me tell you! Sunday we spent the afternoon at the park. now that shakti is walking it was truly heart breaking for me to see her in action. she was playing with the other kids and being very social. it is definitely a reality that she is growing up. she is like a little girl now, as opposed to a baby. in one week she is going to be 11 months old. this is really hitting me hard! its wonderful to see her be social though. she really enjoys being around other kids. thankfully the park is very close to the house. i am making it more of an effort to take her there.

Feb. 21st, 2008

well, shakti started to walk over the weekend and she has not slowed down one bit!
we are so proud of her!!

we use the "what to expect..." series as a little guide (though i am not all too hot on that series of books, i feel that it discourages against attachment parenting) on what i should be working with shakti on developmentally. now that she is walking, she has achieved all the milestones that are expected of a 12 month old! including rolling a ball, playing patty cake and peek a boo, using gestures to get her needs met instead of crying etc.

she truly makes my heart melt. <3

Feb. 11th, 2008

here is an adorable video of shakti talking. she has a vocab of 5 words. she says Mama, Dada, NoNo, Kitty and woah! haha. the last two days i have been working with her on "milk" but that seems harder for her to say so we are using "boobah" for nursing hehe. i think thats pretty good for her being 10 months old!! she uses these words in context too so i don't believe that she is just copying me. when she goes near something she isn't supposed to say will say "nono!" and when an animal goes by she says "kitty!"

i thought you guys would enjoy this video :D

sunshine sunshine!!!

the weather has been absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!! all week long i have been taking shakti on long walks just enjoying the sunshine. today we went over to esther and brandons house. we took our babies (hehe Shakti and Shanti esthers puppy) to the park. we had soooo much fun! shakti got to swing on her first swing. she had sooo much fun. she laughed a ton! below is a video i took while we were there, it doesn't do any justice. she laughed a TON.

also here are a few photos from today.

first steps, baby sign, first words

shakti just loves the new shelving pieces in the living room.
this last week or so she just seems so big to me!!

last weekend she took two steps at Donna's house. she went from the coffee table to an end table all by herself. then on Monday my dear friend Misty came over and we were sitting outside with our kiddos and Shakti took a few steps from me to Misty. she'll be walkin' before we know it!!

she also says "mama" "dada" "keeekeee" for kitty haha and all day yesterday every time i would say "woah!" she would say "woah!!" back at me. aaron and i have been working with her a little bit on baby sign. just basic words such as mommy, daddy, kitty, milk, water, stars etc. but i would really love to integrate that more into her every day routine so wish me luck!
